Colonel had a keratoconjuctivectomy and mass removal on his lower eyelid followed by
adjunctive Beta-radiation for a Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) of his right eye as well
as a mass removed from his penis. SCC is a very common ocular tumor of horses,
particularly in light colored breeds such as draft horses and Appaloosas. Over-exposure
to UV light with this tumor can result in progression and that is why Colonel needs to
wear a UV protective fly mask while outside.
Colonel was hospitalized at the OSU college of Veterinary Medicine from
08/04/11-08/06/11 and is expected to make a full recovery. Colonel's medical
expenses are around $2500.00. The Circle P Sanctuary is a non-profit organization that
is able to operate and make a difference in these animals lives based on your kind
donations. Every dollar counts and we appreciate anything you can give to help cover
the cost of Colonel's recovery.

Colonel's Care
Horse Info: The horses that started it all -Colonel and Dusty were the first horses accepted to Circle P
Sanctuary. These siblings have never been separated, thus they must be adopted together. Left behind by an
owner who could no longer afford board or medical care, they had no where to go. When Philip and Lynne heard
about their situation they sprang into action. Upon purchasing these siblings, Philip and Lynne provided all
medical, farrier and boarding costs necessary at their current location. Finally, the Circle P Sanctuary was ready
to open their gates and hearts to welcome the very first residents. Both have been ridden in the past but have
not been under saddle in years. Colonel has started back under saddle with some light riding in the arena and
back field. He is doing well but may only be suitable for light riding. He has had some soundness issues in the
past which may prevent him from more strenuous work. He has a great attitude and will do most anything for a
treat, including bowing. These two are a beautiful pair to behold and are very easy keepers.

"With the recent cancer scare concerning Colonel, the Circle P Sanctuary has
made the decision to remove Dusty and Colonel from the Adoption Program
and take them on as Permanent Residents at this time. We will continue to
monitor their health as well as utilize them as lesson horses until their health
dictates otherwise. If you would like to sponsor or make a one time donation
towards their care, please click HERE!"
