Meet Our Friend Jenny
Jenny- (Lifelong Resident of
the Sanctuary)
Breed- Wild Burro
Color- Gray/White/Black
Birth Year- 05/2005
Arrival Date: 2/11/06
Notes: Jennie was adopted through the Bureau of Land Management
(BLM). She is one of our Ambassadors and is important to our
Education Program. Jennie was extremely frightened when she first
arrived. It is a difficult ordeal for these young equines to endure. It
was several months before we could get close enough to touch her.
It takes patience for her to warm up to you, but once she does, she is
very loving. She will follow you around and want to be close to you.
She was able to maintain good hoof care naturally, until she
foundered. With consistent efforts, the farrier is able to trim all of her
hooves. Burros are very different from horses. My understanding is
that they actually have the capability of reasoning, and horses do not.
This is sometimes why they can be difficult to train. The basic handling
methods we use for horses will not necessarily work for burros. She is
generally not too frightened of the other horses.
